"Big Game Fishing. A Bigger Purpose"

"Empowering those living with Multiple Sclerosis through the thrill of the catch and the strength of community."

The Reel Hope Foundation is a Texas-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by Multiple Sclerosis. Through world-class offshore fishing tournaments, strategic partnerships, and direct funding of MS-related services, we transform passion into purpose — and catches into hope.

Why We Do What We Do

1 Million+ Americans are living with MS

MS is unpredictable. It can take away mobility, independence, and identity.

Because MS doesn’t follow a rulebook — it can strike at any age, with symptoms that come and go without warning. One day, someone can walk unassisted; the next, they may struggle to hold a fishing rod or button a shirt.

That unpredictability doesn’t just challenge the body — it erodes confidence, robs people of their independence, and slowly chips away at the life they once knew.

Reduces Stress & Inflammation Naturally

Being outside — especially near water — has been clinically shown to lower cortisol levels, reduce stress, and improve immune function. For people with MS, whose symptoms are often triggered or worsened by stress and inflammation, time outdoors can provide therapeutic benefits that go beyond medicine.

Nature isn’t a luxury — it’s part of the healing process.

Restores a Sense of Independence & Identity

Many individuals with MS experience a loss of control over their bodies — and with that, a shrinking of their world. Outdoor adventures help reignite confidence, rebuild identity, and remind them that they are more than their diagnosis. On the water, they’re not patients — they’re participants.

“Out here, I’m not someone with MS. I’m just an angler chasing something bigger.”

Creates Community & Connection

MS can be isolating — physically, emotionally, and socially. Outdoor events like fishing tournaments foster belonging, laughter, and human connection. It gives people with MS a tribe. A reason to look forward. A team.

“For the first time in years, I didn’t feel alone.”

What We Do & Why It's Important!

We believe everyone deserves a chance to feel the wind, cast a line, and be part of something bigger

1. Breaking Physical Barriers

We connect individuals with MS to adaptive outdoor equipment — like cooling vests, shade systems, and mobility-accessible gear — so they can explore nature safely and confidently.

Because the right tools can turn “I can’t” into “I can.”

2. Equipping with Knowledge

Through hands-on guides and educational workshops, we teach people how to manage heat sensitivity, stay safe, and make the outdoors more accessible.

Because confidence comes not just from gear — but from knowing how to use it.

3. Creating Outdoor Experiences

We organize accessible outdoor events — from fishing trips to walks, picnics, and nature outings — designed to inspire movement, joy, and connection.

Every step outside is a step toward strength, freedom, and healing.

4. Building Community & Resilience

Our events bring people together — not just to share a trail or boat, but to share stories, laughter, and support.

Because no one should face MS alone.

5. Funding Access to Adventure

We raise funds to provide equipment grants and financial assistance so cost never keeps someone from reclaiming the outdoors.

Hope should never come with a price tag.

Founder and President

Brent Anderson

Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010, Brent Anderson turned a personal battle into a public mission. Fueled by firsthand experience, he founded the Reel Hope Foundation to empower others with MS through access, activity, and hope.

A passionate offshore angler with a global record of catching billfish and pelagic species, Brent believes that purpose and movement are essential to living well with MS. His “unhealthy obsession” with fishing became a lifeline — and now, a legacy.

Through Reel Hope, Brent blends his love for the sport with an unshakable commitment to helping others reclaim the outdoors — and their sense of self..
